1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Before starting to film, I researched different Crayola commercials from the past and noticed they all take place in a classroom filled with a bunch of kids drawing and laughing. We wanted to recreate the classroom, kid feelings, but we are teenagers, so it is hard to convey that. We filmed in our classroom and you can see some students in the back, however, they are not engaging like how the commercials are. Also, our music choice was more upbeat and wilder.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed
as a real media text?
Our product captures the eyes of children and parents. When the kids see how vibrant and exciting Crayola seems in the commercial it appeals to their emotions. Parents will be sucked into this realm that their children will put them in because they “need” to have it. Also, it gives an insight to a child’s life and mind through a 30 second commercial.
3. 3. How
did your production skills develop throughout this project?
I believe I became a better editor throughout this project. I have never tried to edit anything before and was scared to. Although I found some fun in editing. It was stressful at some points because I had no idea where to begin. Once I got the hang of things, I was able to find my way around. Additionally, I am not good at telling someone to do something, but I wanted to do well on this project so when I noticed we were behind I got everyone back in line just as a good director would do. Along the way I even came up with new ideas and opened my mind to new thoughts. Also, with each scene I found myself thinking of ways of improvement and how we can include different filming techniques.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
At the beginning
of the project, we took a picture of the classroom on each of our phones. Then
we compared the camera quality and decided my phone was the best to film on. My
phone is the iPhone 12 Pro Max and is the most recent out of the three of us.
We filmed the videos and took pictures on my phone for the blogs and
commercial. I then sent the videos and pictures in our group chat so they would
have them. When it came down to editing, I tried to edit on my computer which
is a Dell Tablet, but the Wi-Fi was awful, and I had to resort to the only
editing app on my phone. I used iMovie which is one of the most used editing
apps for iPhones. The filters on iMovie were not helpful so I added different
filters on the camera app. I increased and decreased things such as saturation,
exposure, highlights, and black point.
