1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Before starting to film, I researched different Crayola commercials from the past and noticed they all take place in a classroom filled with a bunch of kids drawing and laughing. We wanted to recreate the classroom, kid feelings, but we are teenagers, so it is hard to convey that. We filmed in our classroom and you can see some students in the back, however, they are not engaging like how the commercials are. Also, our music choice was more upbeat and wilder. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our product captures the eyes of children and parents. When the kids see how vibrant and exciting Crayola seems in the commercial it appeals to their emotions. Parents will be sucked into this realm that their children will put them in because they “need” to have it. Also, it gives an insight to a child’s life and mind thro

Commercial Blog

The road to the commercial was particularly bumpy. However, to every road there is times where it is smooth, which is exactly how I felt in the commercial process. From trying to figure out what to do and making the final touches, I can say I have a lot of fun. Working with friends and getting to go out of class and film on our phones are times I will remember for a long time. Attempting to do something I thought I had no interest in and finding out I actually enjoy it is pretty ironic. I had a lot of fun despite some tough moments. Trying new things in school can be very scary, especially if you have never done anything like that. What I thought I knew nothing about, turned into something that I am very educated in and enjoy. I believe that I worked the hardest and took this project more seriously than my other partners, they still came through when they had to. I am excited to try to do something similar in the future.

Exciting Editing Blog

Last class I had surgery and was unable to help out my partners. Today I made it my mission to finalize everything and do the finishing touches. I watched the whole commercial and the end part caught my eye. I thought it looked weird how the words didn't pop up one sentence at a time. Also, I realized the black screen I had put in the end was removed. I added it back in because the commercial needs to show that I have a strong understanding of filming vocabulary. Once it was added back in I got to work on the ending. The last scene show cases the Crayola logo and the slogan. I asked to step outside the classroom and record a voice memo of my voice. I used headphones for better sound quality. I said "The Power of Creativity, Crayola, It Starts Here" which the the slogan. Next I timed up the words with the voice memo. This made each line pop up when I said that line. After I re-watched the whole commercial again and still wasn't satisfied. The font of the words wasn

Expert Editor Blog

Today was a very stressful day for me. It was editing day one. I am not familiar with editing and I work better with the filming. However, with one out our group partners out sick, I had to most of the editing. I couldn't find my charger for my phone so I could plug it into my computer so I can import the videos onto it so I asked around. No one had a charger but luckily I found mine at the very bottom of my backpack. Once I imported everything I need onto my computer, I tried to download some editing apps on my computer, but with a bunch of students, teachers, and staff on the same Wi-Fi, it was really slow. Then I tried to download some editing apps on my phone, but I had no service in the classroom. Thankfully I already downloaded iMovie a week ago on my phone. I started to edit on there and realized it was harder than I thought. My other groupmate and I filmed the intro scene and we finally had all the filming material. I placed the four pictures at different times. I tried to

Final Filming Day

Today my group and I finished filming except for one little scene. We forgot to print out four kid drawings for the opening scene. Instead, we each drew a picture and made it look like a little kids drawing. I drew four stick figures which resembled a mom, dad, older sister, and younger brother. I also wrote above 'my family". I capitalized the L and made the y backwards to give it that little kid effect. We did not get to film the first scene, so we have to do that next class. Since I had already filmed my scenes last class, I was on setup and filming duty. I filmed the second to last clip of the commercial and the second backpack scene. Once we filmed two second parts of the split screen scene I had to go back and forth to make sure everything lined up correctly. I also edited and shortened the clips to match up perfectly. This was very hard and stressful because it wasn't matching up. Finally I got it and we went on to the next scene. I set up a 'desk-like' bac
